LF Studios has spent over 30 years building a broad multidisciplinary team of experts that combine methods and materials in novel ways to create extraordinary visitor experiences.

Studio Tour

Concept Design

LF’s Design Studio blends cutting edge technology, creative inspiration and a broad collection of talent to develop the designs for our attractions, exhibits and other types of experiences. Our concept team kicks things off by working with project stakeholders to set the direction of the project.

Detailed Design

The detailed design team takes the concept for the project and develops it into a buildable design that meets performance, reliability, safety and resource goals for the project.

Mock-ups and Prototypes

These are an important step for bespoke designs that often need to last many years after installation. Our prototyping lab takes design concepts or even just vague ideas and turns them into testable elements and processes that we can study and improve upon.

Output

Translating the digital into dimensional… we output our designs through a variety of our 3D printers and mills. Our printers include FDM, SLA and SLS technologies. Our milling capabilities include a 7-axis Kuka and 3-axis milling for metal. We augment our internal capabilities with a variety of external milling specialists.

Sculpting

Our sculpting team is able to transform clay, foam, plastic and a variety of other materials into sculpture reflecting a variety of styles and subject matters.

Plastics

The plastics department creates a variety of molds and forms from which we cast and form the pieces for the elements we create. A specialty of LF is the combination of different materials into a single overall element to provide the best appearance and performance for the project.

Welding

Our certified welders work in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum to fabricate some of the structures and components that support our creations.

Tech Assembly

We have a highly skilled, UL 508A panel shop certified team of assembly technicians that assemble the structural, mechanical and electrical components of each element we build.

Surface Assembly

The surface design team combines all of the fabricated surface pieces from the output, sculpting and plastics departments to assemble and seam the surface of whatever we are creating.

Paint

LF’s paint department has expertise in painting a wide variety of materials ranging from silicone rubber to rigid plastic to fur and fabric. And they are able to apply the appropriate techniques and styles to meet the creative intent and location needs.

Costume

LF has a costume department that can custom create historic costumes, synthetic animals, and a variety of other textile-based elements. We use both digital design (Clo) and traditional draping techniques.

Cosmetology

The cosmetology team applies and styles the hair for our figures– sometimes a single strand at a time.

Show Tech and Programming

The show-tech and programming departments configures and programs all of the technology moves, lights up, makes sound, projects something, receives an input, etc. Their work provides the playback and interactivity many of our projects utilize to create the visitor experience.
